If you want to receive financial aid for higher education, the first thing you will need to do is complete a form called the “Free Application for Federal Student Aid”, or “FAFSA”. Believe me, this is worth it. I have personally received thousands of dollars in government grants toward my education, simply because I did not have the money to pay for it myself. It’s true, some of us can “get paid” to go to school. The Office of Federal Student Aid is very generous if you don’t have a lot of income. Many people talk themselves out of going to school because they “can’t afford it”. It’s true that even with federal aid, some can’t, depending on the circumstances. But for some, it makes all the difference in the world.
Filling out the FAFSA doesn’t cost a thing, except for maybe less than an hour of your time. There is no obligation, so you might as well find out how much you may be eligible for.
Make sure you have important documents on hand. You will need your social security number, driver’s license number (if applicable), and any financial information, such as bank statements and tax records.
It’s best to fill out the FAFSA as early in the year as possible. Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov/ to get started!
