I have been reading about the Chafee program online (general information located at www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cb/resource/chafee-foster-care-program) and from what I understand by reading that page, grants are offered to States and Tribes in order to provide services to youth who are transitioning to adulthood. These services are the same services that ILP programs offer, i.e. "help with education, employment, financial management, housing, emotional support and assured connections to caring adults for older youth in foster care". Because it isn't clear to me, I thought I would ask here, is it the same thing? Is the Chafee program administered by ILP services such as those I have listed in the ILP resources section? In other words, they are funded by the Chafee program? Or is it a separate program entirely? I want to know how it works so that any information I provide here is correct. Because we hear about the Chafee program so often in the foster care industry, I thought it might be possible that youth aging out might ask about it. If someone asked me how to obtain Chafee program services, I'm not sure I would know, unless it is indeed through one's ILP. Maybe someone else here could jump in and provide some info. Thanks.
