Note: If you are still in the custody and care of DHS, you may contact your DHS worker to see if you are eligible for ILP services. If you have already exited the system before the age of 21, you will need to go to your local DHS child welfare office and request "voluntary services". For a list of office locations, click here. If you live in Hood River or Wasco County, The Next Door provides youth and family services to 12-18 year old youth and their families. Individualized programs may include counseling, life skills training, parenting classes, support groups, anger management training, and connections to resources in the community. Their highly successful Teen Court program allows first time offenders to stand trial before a jury made up of other teens. Those who participate are half as likely to commit another offense as those who go through the traditional juvenile justice system. They also offer a Leaders for Tomorrow program to high school youth. The program motivates youth to become directly involved in the community and to take an active role in creating their own futures. They also provide caring adult mentors to youth in Hood River and Wasco counties, through the Mentor for Success program.
