More than 24,000 young people in the United States age out of the foster care system each year. There are over 8,000 kids in foster care in Oregon alone. Hopefully, most will be reunited with their families. But approximately 200 of them are waiting to be adopted. How can you help? By becoming a foster parent, you can provide a child with a safe place to stay during a difficult time in his or her life. If you wish to prepare for a lifelong commitment, you might consider adoption. If neither of these is right for you, but you would still like to help, you might donate your time, skills, or materials to a community organization that helps children in foster care. You CAN make a difference in a child’s life. Please reach out to one or more of these kids. To find out more, please visit: www.oregon.gov/DHS/children/fosteradopt/Pages/index.aspx
