“ Things People Never Told Me” is an informational tool-kit provided by Portland State University’s Better Futures Project, Research and Training Center for Pathways to Positive Futures. Researchers interviewed a group of young adults who had either transitioned out of foster care, or were in the process of doing so, in order to find out what might be difficult or confusing. Drawing on their first-hand experiences and thus gaining insight into important life areas, it is hoped that youth leaving foster care in the future might be better equipped with the tools needed in becoming independent and successful adults. Topics include finances, healthcare, employment, relationships, housing, self-advocacy, and more. There is a special section at the end called “Myths, Stereotypes, and the Truth” that I highly recommend. To access “Things People Never Told Me”, click here.
