The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) offers an internship program to foster youth to work as a paid congressional intern in Washington, D.C. The Foster Youth Internship (FYI) program is both highly competitive and highly esteemed, and the deadline for 2013 has already passed, but it’s a great thing to think about for next year. 12-16 interns are chosen each year, from about 100 applicants. The program began about a decade ago with the goal of raising awareness among federal policymakers regarding the experiences, needs, and unique perspectives of young adults who spent time in foster care. These interns play an important role in bringing about policy recommendations and legislative changes.
