The Job Corps program is administered by the U.S. Department of Labor and offers free education and vocational training to youth ages 16 to 24. It is a self-paced program, so the length of time that you are in the program varies between three months and two years, depending on the career chosen and the pace you set for yourself. You may have heard that Job Corps recently suspended the enrollment of new students due to budget cuts, but foster youth, homeless, and runaways are an exception to that rule! In addition to career planning and on the job training, Job Corps offers GED and college preparation, residential housing, food, driver’s education, healthcare, and a basic living allowance. Some locations have childcare. If eligible, Job Corps can provide you with an opportunity to gain the experience you need to begin a career or advance to higher education. Training is available in over 100 career technical areas. It’s a great opportunity. For more information, please visit: www.jobcorps.gov/Youth.aspx
